Joining the EvE Online Universe can be intimidating to some people, I know I was, and there are many unspoken tips and rules that every new pilot should follow to survive their first month in EvE Online. Let's go over them now.
Notice: These are not listed in any specific order, other than the order I typed them. Enjoy!
1) Never undock a ship you cannot replace.
The number of stories I have read on both Twitter and the EvE Online forums about this kind of thing is just too many. If you just spent your space life savings on a new ship or fit I wouldn't suggest taking it out until you can at least get insurance on it.
2) No matter what you do, you will eventually lose a ship.
Sad but true. Every pilot always eventually loses a ship, and you can bet your bottom it wont be the last. Don't let it discourage you.
3) Trust nobody!
Chances are you are going to be contacted by several corporations or players offering to help you in one way or another. Feel free to join their public channel if they have one, and get to know them. However, if they invite you to a fleet or their corp and then want you to meet them somewhere shortly after to "help" you out chances are you are being setup.
4) Scam artists are everywhere.
The worst part is, in EvE scamming is a legit career. Meaning if you fall for one of these tricks, there is no getting your items/money back. Chances are if something looks too good to be true, it probably is.
5) Skills are important, ISK is MORE important
I'm only going to say this once, making ISK is VITAL in EvE. I guarantee you, you will find yourself having the skills to fly a battleship long before you have the ISK to pay for the ship itself, not to mention all the modules you'll want to put on it. The golden rule of EvE is to always have something training, but finding your desired career path and specializing in it to maximize your ISK from it is just as important, if not more.
Now, it's your turn. I am leaving the last 5 unspoken rules open. Let me hear in the comments below some of the unspoken rules you guys think new pilots should know about! Follow me on Twitter or subscribe to my feed to know when the next 5 rules are posted.
